Today in class we worked on:
1/20 – Today in class we worked on: TU B SHEVAT. Thank you to all the families who had their children show up wearing green for our yom ruach (Spirit day). We began our day greeting each other and playing our Jewish board games and collecting tzedakah. Morah Ari led Gan – 3rd grade in Shira. We celebrated trees today! We began with a wonderful story and the children loved it. We said our prayers and had our snack of all things from trees! Rabbi Prass led Gan – 3rd grade in T’fillah. Returning to class, we began our tree craft with real pieces of tree stumps and we added the tree and leaves. We learned a new Hebrew letter and worked on our workbooks. We ended our morning with a story

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
1/13 – Today in class we worked on: Creation. We began our day greeting each other after our break and playing board games and collecting tzedakah. Our morning switched around and we started with Shira led by Morah Ari. We returned to our class and said our prayers, had snack and read 2 short stories about creation and the children were adorable. We discussed creation and worked on our posters of each day of creation. Rabbi Prass led Gan – 3rd grade in T’fillah. We returned and completed our wonderful creations (!). We also learned a new Hebrew letter and review.

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
12/16 – We went to Israel today (!!!!) …. such a fun morning.
when the children arrived, they received their passports and took their seats! Rabbi Prass led Gan – 3rd Grade in T’fillah. Returning from T’fillah we waved up and talked about our trip and said our prayers. We ate our Israeli snack of hummus and pita and Israeli cookies, yum and fun! Morah Ari led Gan -3rd grade in Shira. To end our wonderful morning, we crafted a fun suitcase for our trip while listening to 2 more stories about our homeland.

We also had Yom PJ’s— your children looked marvelous.

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
12/9 – We began our morning with greeting each other and playing our Jewish boards games, collecting tzedakah. Today Chanukah music filled our room, but today we had the gift of our family with us for the morning since it was our annual Gan/Kindergarten Boker B’yachad. Gan – 3rd grade had T’fillah led by Rabbi Bellows, and our parents joined us. After that parents went and had an adult Ed with Rabbi Prass on how and why we celebrate Chanukah. While the parents were busy, we returned to our fun family morning we washed up and began our craft snack of a dreidel to eat before our parents returned. We listened to a wonderful Chanukah story and began our craft tower. Then Gan – 3rd grade had Shira with Morah Ari, and our parents joined us. After that, students and parents returned from Shira that we shared with our family, we finished our Chanukah storybook with stickers that told
the story and we completed it together. With our family we made our Star of David mobiles and then went around and listened to questions about our Chanukah experience and shared that together.

It was so great to have a special morning with our parents.

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
12/2 – What a wonderful morning! We began as we always do collecting tzedakah, games and saying hello. I love watching them wait for and greet each other. Today we had Chanukah music flowing at our all school, special T’fillah, where we had our special consecration ceremony this morning. When we returned we washed up and shared a snack after saying our prayers. Our unit this week and next is CHANUKAH ! We shared a Chanukah snack playing with our food to make dreidels out of cheese topped with a pretzel. We made and played with our homemade dreidels made from cork and crayon, then we made our wonderful menorah craft. Morah Ari led Gan – 3rd grade in Shira. Returning to class, we completed our crafts and we read 2 wonderful CHANUKAH stories as we played. To complete our busy morning, we sat together and went thru an interactive Chanukah book as we told the story and added the stickers to complete it.

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
11/18 – We begin our mornings with greeting each other and playing our Jewish boards games, collecting tzedakah. Rabbi Bellows led Gan – 3rd grade in T’fillah. In class, we started today having a wonderful discussions about God and gratitude and gratefulness. Our craft today was about “What I’m grateful for (in Hebrew) and we loved the discussion. We shared our snack after saying prayers. Morah Ari led Gan – 3rd grade in Shira. We finished our wonderful craft and then made cards to send to college students.

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
11/11 – Whew! We finished our next item for our Shabbat boxes…our Havdalah candles. The children loved making their candles…it was so lively! We THEN moved on to our unit on God. One of my favorite discussions with the children is this subject. We handed out to each child their magnifying mirrors and walked around the building looking at God’s wonderful mirror.

Gan – 3rd grade had T’fillah led by Rabbi Bellows. When we returned we made our door hangers with “let God in” and let the children create on them. We listed to 2 wonderful stories as we ate our snack after our prayers (my favorite time too!).

Morah Ari led Gan – 3rd grade in Shira. When we returned to class, we finished our craft. We then learned another Hebrew letter and worked on their workbooks, which they really enjoy. We listed to 2 more wonderful books. Have a great week.

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
11/4 – Shabbat!!! Today we continued our unit on Shabbat and Havdalah. We began with stories and class discussions and it was lively. Then Rabbi Prass led Gan – 3rd grade in T’fillah emphasizing how the role of a Jew is to bring light into the world. Back in class, our craft today was to create our Kiddush cups. The children did a wonderful job crafting and talking together. So wonderful to see friendships in the makings. Morah Ari led Gan – 3rd grade in Shira. We returned to class to learn a new Hebrew letter and work in our new and fun Hebrew workbooks. We completed our cups and listened to a new Shabbat video and story.

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
10/28 – Shabbat!!! Today we continued our unit on Shabbat and this will continue through next week ending with Havdalah. We began our day with attendance and Jewish board games collecting tzedakah. Then Rabbi Prass and Morah Ari led an all school T’fillah emphasizing our role as Jews in the community. Back in class, we began our long anticipated Shabbat boxes which were so much fun working together and sharing our snacks after the blessings. Today we had a special shira in our classroom, and it was a blast. Then we returned to finish our boxed and hear two wonderful Shabbat stories.

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
10/21 – Shabbat!!! Today we began our unit on Shabbat and this will continue through next session. We began our day with attendance and Jewish board games collecting tzedakah. Then Rabbi Bellows led Gan – 3rd grade in T’Fillah. We began our Shabbat with setting our table and saying our blessings and sharing challah. Yes they love challah, but we enjoyed our ‘meal ‘together and sharing Shabbat stories. We began creating our candle mats for shabbat and we had such a good time talking and listening and crafting these keepsakes. Then Morah Ari led Gan – 3rd grade in shira. We listened to a few stories and completed our mats which turned out great. I still have a few to complete and will bring them next week. We finished with our favorite story.

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
10/14 – We began our morning with attendance, playing our Jewish board games, and collecting Tzedakah. Rabbi Bellows led Gan – 3rd grade in T’Fillah. When we returned to our classroom, we continued our unit on tzedakah and mitzvot. We crafted a tzedakah box and the children really had a great time making them and having wonderful conversations about the subjects etc. Morah Ari led Gan – 3rd grade in Shira. After that, we finished our projects and listened to another story while finishing. We then took our Hebrew workbooks and learned our second Hebrew letter. We finished class with our favorite class story.

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
10/7 – Mitzvoth and Tzedakah was our unit today. We had
amazing discussions about these Jewish values in our
lives. We listened to a great story and started our
mitzvah wheels. Rabbi Bellows led Gan – 3rd grade in TFillah. We had our snack after our blessings which they are doing so well with. we walked around the building to visit each class and donate to each of their class and also
donate to the beth am food pantry. Morah Ari led us Gan – 3rd grade in shira. We returned and completed the mitzvah wheels which we discussed and they had so much to offer! We watched a video and finished with a great story

 

 

Today in class we worked on:

9/30 – Only our second day together in our school space and it was nice to get back after holiday!

Today we say goodbye to Sukkot and introduced Simchat Torah! We started our morning with Jewish board games and this also helps us to work together and get to know one another.

Morah Ari led Gan – 3rd grade in shira.  After that, we began our unit and watched a very short video on Simcha Torah and began our craft. We all created a Torah and listened to a story about this holiday. Rabbi Bellows led Gan – 3rd grade led T’fillah. After T’fillah, we finished our Torah scroll and also made a lulav and Etrog craft. We ended our busy morning with the lulu dance and our favorite class story!

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
9/23 – It was so great to have this session of religious school at the synagogue. We started the day meeting just with our classroom to collect tzedakah, attendance, and then play a name game. Secondly, all Gan – 6th grade met in the sanctuary for an all school T’fillah led by Morah Ari and Rabbi Prass. We sang, prayed, and looked around our Jewish space. After that Gan – 3rd grade rotated thru 3 stations: (a) visiting the Sukkah with Rabbi Bellows and learning about how it is built; the lulav and the Etrog (b) Ushpizin – guests for a sukkah, and an art project for inviting our own guests and (c) paper chain decoration for the CBA sukkah where we wrote what we are thankful for on some of the links of the chain. After the three rotations, all of Gan – 6th grade gathered back together for Shira led by Morah Ari and a story by Rabbi Bellows, about why it always rains on Sukkot.

 

 

Today in class we worked on:
9/16 – Getting to know each other, learning our expectations in class and getting comfortable with our setting and new room for some of us. Whew! We began learning the blessings over the water/wine, blessing over our snack while we listened to a Yom Kippur story and another story about starting Religious School. We made a huge arrow coloring it and then played a game to also play at our holiday, ask them about it! we ended with Tashlich at our sink and our classroom story Gefilte Fish. We had shira with Morah Ari, and all of Gan – 3rd grade. It was great seeing so many parents at the opening ceremony.
Homework to be completed by next class:
9/16 – Try to play with the arrow game at your holiday, asking each member who is pointed at about gratitude.
